Hey Radiant,
It is God’s beauty that humbles us.
Jonathan Edwards, the famous Puritan theologian, writes:
“[It is the] sight of the divine beauty of Christ, that bows the wills, and draws the hearts of men.”
Edwards notes that while God’s greatness may cause us to fear God, it is God’s goodness and love that wins us over.
The stunning beauty of Jesus is laid bare in one of the most shocking moments in all the gospels: John 13, when Jesus washes the feet of his disciples.
This moment was not expected and the disciples actually had trouble making sense of it. Peter couldn’t receive it at first.
We struggle with this too.
We have trouble embracing the scandalous truth that the word made flesh, God with us, becomes a lowly servant and scrubs grimy feet.
But friends, this is our God. And beholding this mystery can change the depths of our hearts.
May his humility humble us and bow our wills to the one who bowed down took hold of our feet.

Home churches are getting back starting in mid-September. Radiant Home Churches are communities of discipleship in the way of Jesus and are foundational to our life as a church. If you are not currently in a home church, or would like to try a new home church, please fill out this interest form, or contact one of the leaders below and we’ll follow up with you!
THE ALPHA COURSE
What is Alpha? Alpha is a series of conversations about things we all question in life: Why do bad things happen to good people? What’s the purpose of life? What’s next? It’s for those exploring Jesus, for those who are skeptical, for those who want to be refreshed. It is an 10 week course, but you are welcome to come to the first gathering to check it out, no commitment required. This is a great community to invite friends who are exploring faith — all questions welcomed! And more than that — dinner is included! Sign up here. The course will begin at 6PM at ELC.

CHILI COOKOFF AND TALENT SHOW
The Chili Cook-off is coming back. But this year, we are spicing it up with a talent show. Join us on Sunday, November 9th from 5-7PM. Sign up to bring Chili, Cornbread, and to share your talents.
